Note 11: Inception: mind-reading

As we make progress in our meditation, one of the prominent changes in the meditator’s life is the experience of “wonder” in day-to-day life. Today let’s talk about meditators’ sensitivity and capability to absorb others’ thoughts.

Your mind is a powerful tool if used consciously. Unconsciously it is nothing but a pre-programmed computer. Your mind can work both as a transmitter as well as a receiver of thoughts. You can create thoughts combined with intentions to manifest events. At the same time, you are capable of receiving thoughts from the atmosphere. Let me explain this further with an analogy here. If you ever visit Morgue or Hospital, remember your most intense thoughts, They will be mostly around death and disease. At the same time if you are on a dance floor of a Club then very rarely do you think about anything but fun. What I am trying to say here is that a place or commune can influence your thoughts. This is the reason why Monasteries and worshiping places like churches, temples, Mosques were created. It is to create a pool of energy.

Meditators develop a unique ability to read thoughts and minds sometimes. This usually starts with close family members and later with friends and the workplace. If meditators are not prepared for this mind-reading ability then these events can have interesting effects on them. The first and foremost thing to remember is that you will not read everything correctly and probably 0.001% of the time you are right. But as and when you notice you have read someone correctly then the event leaves an everlasting impression on you. With this memory, you often make efforts to read others’ minds and you go wrong most of the time. Meditators often fall into this ego trip of being a mind reader.

Unless you have deep compassion and love towards others you may not respond well to the ability to read thoughts. Because Judgment and analysis enter your mind and you will start judging people and labeling people which are detrimental to your journey.

What can you do?

There is a lesson here you need to learn. This unique gift of intuition is to help you make progress in your journey. You have to stop judging others. You have to stop analyzing others. This stage is to help accept all relationships around you in total acceptance and unconditional love. This acceptance creates fewer conflicts in your heart so that your meditation progress becomes easy. Please also note that meditators at this stage tend to get manipulative and over judgmental. You need to watch out for your negative traits to surface in tune with others.

This stage also helps you in understanding stillness. You will understand with the meditation practice that irrespective of the influence of your ecosystem, you can still maintain inner peace and sanctuary.

Unless you learn meditation in the marketplace, you cannot understand the power of inner stillness.

Note to help:

One of the ways to improve your intuition is by improving your awareness on Third Eye or Pineal gland. It is a space between your eyebrows. Awareness of third eye almost is automatic when awareness of mind reaches certain level. With Third eye one can manage Intuition as well as awareness. Here is a breathing technique to help you with your third eye awarenss

Apart from above breathing technique, one other experiment I strongly suggest to meditators is to meditate at odd places like hospitals, Morgue, Rock concerts, Farmers Market….etc. Each of these places has tremendous energy but if you can find your meditation in the middle of the market place then you have discovered something magnificent. Each time you catch a thought just watch it as your own. Let it pass and you be a watcher. Do not get involved in others’ thoughts as well as in your thoughts. Let moment to moment awareness be your guide.
